The usual price of a water bottle sold at Shop A and Shop B was $20. During a sale, Shop A and Shop B gave different discounts. How much more would he save as compared to the other shop? (1 mark)

shop A discount % → 20% shop A after discount 1 bottle → (100 - 20)% x 20 = $16

shop A after discount 8 bottles → 8 x 16 = $128

shop B

bottle on 50% off or discount → (100 - 50)% x 20 = $10

1 group of 3 bottles → 2 usual price + 50% off = 2 x 20 + 10 = $50

number of groups for 8 bottles → 8 ÷ 3 = 2 remainder 2

remainder 2 bottles → 2 x 20 = $40

total → 2 x 50 + 40 = $140

difference → 140 - 128 = $12
